Every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month does something important. It gets people checking, talking, and booking screening appointments. But there's a part of the story that gets far less airtime, and it's the part we hear about every single week from our customers.
It's what happens afterwards.
After the surgery, after the drains come out, after the appointments start to space out a little. That's when women start asking a question nobody prepared them for: what on earth do I wear now?
We've been fitting and advising on post-surgery bras for years, and we've learned that this question is rarely just about a garment. So this October, rather than simply turning our logo pink, we wanted to write something practical. The advice we'd give you if you rang us up.
Why your old bras probably won't work
Surgery changes things. Sometimes obviously, sometimes subtly. Even without a mastectomy, a lumpectomy, reconstruction or reduction can change your volume, your shape, the position of your breast tissue, and where your skin is tender.
Underwires are the usual culprit. A wire sits exactly where scar tissue, drain sites and radiotherapy-sensitive skin tend to be. What felt supportive before can feel sharp now.
Then there's reaching behind your back. If you've had lymph nodes removed or you're dealing with restricted shoulder movement, fastening a bra behind you can go from automatic to painful.
And there's the size itself. Your ribcage may have changed. Swelling comes and goes for months. The 34F on your label may bear no relation to what your body needs today. Stage one
Straight after surgery
In the first days and weeks, the priority is simply gentleness. Look for a non-wired bra with a front fastening, soft seams and a wide underband that spreads pressure rather than digging in.

When you're cleared to exercise, the wrong sports bra can undo a lot of good. 30-day returns
Returns are straightforward within 30 days, so you can order two or three sizes, take your time, and send back what doesn't work. No pressure and no rush.
